Tarnie Simms Posted by Tarnie Simms in Coronavirus discussion in Vejer de la Frontera: Covid-19 news and updates on Tue Mar 17, 2020 2:34pm

Hi there,

My partner and I were at the beginning of a 6 month driving holiday but due to travel advice have decided we need to return to Australia. We are able to get flights but our issue is we have a car that we are needing to store somewhere until we can arrange shipment to Australia. Would anyone know of somewhere/someone who may be able to help. As we are unsure of when Australia may close borders we would ideally like to be on our way by the weekend.

Kind regards,

Tarnie

Horse livery recommendations please - 0 replies

Debbieboyes Posted by Debbieboyes in Animals and pets in Jerez de la Frontera on Mon Mar 16, 2020 9:46pm

Hello,

I’m new here so sorry if this has been asked before. We are hoping to move next year - my husband is probably going to be sponsored in his job. I want to bring my horse with me and I am wondering if there are many liveries in the area. He will be based in Jerez but we will be living in a 30 minute radius. Ideally in looking for a no frills, natural horsemanship type place.

Any recommendations?

Thanks Debbie 😊

Spain declares a national lockdown (March 2020) - 0 replies

Alex Posted by Alex in Announcements on Sat Mar 14, 2020 10:38pm

Spain has declared a national lockdown.

You can read the full declaration here (in Spanish):

https://www.boe.es/diario_boe/txt.php?id=BOE-A-2020-3692

And also:

https://www.lamoncloa.gob.es/consejodeministros/resumenes/Paginas/2020/14032020_alarma.aspx

Here are the details from the Guardian in English:

"The Spanish government has formally declared a state of emergency over the coronavirus, placing the country in lockdown and ordering people to stay at home for the next two weeks unless they have to buy food or medicine or go to work or hospital.

The prime minister confirmed that people would be required to stay home from Monday morning and that all non-essential shops would close, along with bars, restaurants, cafes and cinemas.

Supermarkets, small food shops, pharmacies, petrols stations and pet supply shops are among those businesses that will remain open.

He said: “During the state of emergency, people will only be allowed out on to public streets for the following reasons: to buy food, basic or pharmaceutical items; to attend medical centres; to go to and from work; to look after children, older people or those with disabilities or who are especially vulnerable, and to attend financial or insurance offices on force majeure grounds.”

Speaking after a seven-hour cabinet meeting on Saturday evening, the prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, said “extraordinary decisions” needed to be taken as Spain grappled with a “health, social and economic crisis”.

Sánchez said the central government would direct the response and that all the local, national and regional police forces would come under the command of the interior ministry. He also said that the army was standing by and ready to help with the emergency response.

Sánchez acknowledged that the measures needed to tackle the coronavirus would have a “big economic impact” but said the government was committed to mitigating its effects."

I need a laptop and WiFi to apply for a job. Is there anywhere close to Conil that has such a thing - an old fashioned Internet cafe or computers in a library? Help - I only have 3 days and phone won’t open the form. Thanks

Alex Posted by Alex in Announcements on Thu Feb 27, 2020 9:19pm

We are sorry to say that Jan, my mother and founder of this website, recently passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jan enjoyed working on this website and helping others, and you may be interested to know the following background about her and our website:

In 2004 Jan started a web-based group for expats in the Cuidad Quesada area in Spain for a small group of friends and residents, where they could discuss living in the new development within the area and share ideas. At the time, there was limited information and help online for people in their position, and excited by the thought of reaching more people in similar situations, Jan started the www.talkquesada.com website in 2011 with the aim of creating a friendly and informative place for people to visit for everything to do with Quesada. This friendly online community has since grown considerably, as today it stands at nearly 12,000 members.

Based on the success of Jan’s Quesada website, she then started more websites covering other areas in Spain, as well as a website for the UK. After all of Jan’s hard work, she has gained nearly 100,000 members in total across all the websites.

Jan loved nothing more than helping people find useful information that she wished she could have found herself when she first thought about living in Spain and buying a property there.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and thanks to Jan for any help she may have given you over the years, either personally or through the help her websites have provided. Or if you’re new to the site hopefully you will find Jan’s experience and legacy helpful to you.  We will continue Jan’s work keeping the website up to date, encouraging discussions and exchanging useful information.

We have also set up a Just Giving page in memory of Jan, to help raise money for the Princess Alice Hospice, in the UK, which cared for her so kindly during her final days. Princess Alice Hospice rely on donations and fundraising to keep going, and provide a wonderful service for those who need it. Here is the link if you wish to kindly donate:

https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jan-forums

I will be carrying on Jan's websites in her memory as this is what she would have wanted. For the moment please bear with me while we get up to speed on everything.

Thank you,

Alex
