Hi everyone, at the moment I live with my husband, our dog & cat in Mojácar on the costa Almería. We’ve been here for over 16 years & loved loved every minute. However, at the age we are now (I’m 61 he’s 70) we are looking for a quieter life but still close enough to walk to at least one or two bars/restaurants a shop for essentials. Looking ahead, we want a villa type property (all on one level) with enough outside space for the dog to run around. We could also do with at least a small network of expats, is there a bar somewhere where expats tend to go? (We have lots of them here!)

Where would you recommend we look?

What is the climate like there? It’s very hot and humid here July through to September & the humidity level is another huge reason we’re thinking of relocating 🤷‍♀️

Any advice at all will be very helpful

for the ladies there is a ladies Breakfast club that meets once a month there are a few bars that people meet Im not sure which ones as I dont drink. But please be warned the temp. in July and August at times reaches over 50 degrees I have the photos to shoe . but with a pool, the Beach which is very good it does not matter well for me that is. I hope this might of been of some help . If I can be of any more help please let me know. Good luck . Alan

Hi Alan, thank you so much for getting back to me. We are coming down to the area in August to sample the temperature for ourselves 🥵 look around and view a few properties, mainly around Marquesado, Pago de fumo. Do you know this area? Would you recommend buying there? And regarding the extreme summer heat, can I ask if it also gets humid?
It’s the humidity here where we live in Mojácar, costa Almería that really effects me, the heat not so much 🤷‍♀️

The highest temperature ever recorded in Europe is 48.8°C in Sicily in August 2021.

It does occasionally get over 40° here, particularly further inland, but claims of 50°+ are somewhat exaggerated.

Never particularly humid here, you'll be pleased to hear, but heat and (sea)water will inevitably lead to an increase in humidity in the summer anywhere you go.

Hi Alan, thanks very much for taking the time to reply. The humidity is a massive reason we are looking at relocating. Also a bit more outside space & Chiclana seems to have most of what we’re looking for & most importantly within our price range.

Do you have mainly Spanish friends or is there an Ex-Pat social scene? I worry only that my husband has no real Spanish so would struggle to make Spanish friends & my Spanish is fairly limited.

We are coming down there 12th of next month, so we may get in touch to “pick your brains” Thanks again.
Julie

Thank you… You’re right, we are very pleased to hear its not particularly humid as that would potentially be the decider on whether to relocate there or not.

We are looking forward to our fact finding visit next month 😎

Hi As for Mateo's comments that 50 plus is an exaggeration I have the photos to prove my statement and to be honest  no one takes any notice of the official recordings as they are not every where all at the same time . But there you go.

You're just plain wrong, fella.

Of course you may have photos from a non-calibrated, supermarket quality gauge that is neither located nor measured to normal scientific standards, but they really aren't worth a bean!

Anyway, experts - who needs them?  We learnt that from the 2016 referendum, right?
