Hello, I'm Andrea. My partner and myself and our cat are coming to the area for 12 / 18 months with a view to relocate permanently.
My question is does anyone have advice on the safests and most humain transportation of pets?
We are coming from uk.
Also are there any recommendations for good vets in the area as well please?

...he whole journey)- a pet carrier (size limitations on your chosen airlines website) soft sided as opposed to hard carrier (the sizes given do not always fit under seat if a hard carrier is used - depends on aircraft for your journey). We do carry a shallow tray/litter box sand/small pack of his food & small allowable size container of water in our carry on baggage for possible delays/unplanned stopovers -needed in August for unplanned in Paris. We have been traveling with our cat in cabin at least twice a year from Canada to Spain without any issues. For car travel- we do not use a carrier - we put him in a harness with a lead attached and the non driver holds the lead - allowing him to make a cat nuisance of himself by wandering around over the back seat/luggage etc, but enough control that does not allow him to interfere with the driver.Hope this is of some help, best of luck.

Our cat is a very nervous rescue so i dont think she will manage being in a carrier for long. I've heard that there are spacilist pet movers and wondered if she might be better off in a larger crate in the hold/cargo.
Its a long time for a cat to be in carrier from arrival of airport to landing i know my cat woukd freak out.
The harness and car sounds like a good option and we could hire a van or large car for travel from airport to Cadiz Im sure she could cope with this.
The vet recommendation sounds perfect.

Hello,
The decision of course is yours but we have witnessed hold transported pets sitting in hot sun or adverse weather on loading platforms along with luggage when delays have been announced. The negative of traveling in a hold (whoever is responsible for transport) is that the nervous pet will probably feel similar/same reactions but without the comfort of familiar faces. Our experience has been that cats (ours and others) have been upset (meowing etc) during take off, but once in the air and the rhythm of the engines are constant they tend to settle down. Importantly you are with your pet to comfort, give a treat etc. Most cabin staff have allowed us (by not mentioning it when seen)to raise the carrier onto our laps after take off as long as he stays in carrier. We do however put a hand inside for comfort. He loves looking out of the window at the passing clouds!

Thank you, i didn't realise of course she is at her calmest when she is with me. Thank you so much. I'd rather trust myself than anyone else to care for her. I will look into soft carriers whete i can get my hand in to pet her. I feel bad putting her through it but nobway I'd want to rehome her.
