Hi all, we have seen a town home in Las Lagunetas that seems to be very nice and well priced. I would like advise about the location. The home is a small complex (about 20 homes with a shared pool). It is located in a rural area (although we are told that it was all built with appropriate permits - if we decide to move forward we will have our solicitor verify that). There are two nearby Ventas, but other than that it is rather isolated. Does anyone know the area? Have any thoughts or comments about the area? What is the area like off season (deserted?)

We are a couple (same sex couple if anyone thinks that could be an issue) looking to retire in the area from the States. We love outdoors, hiking, walking our dogs etc, so being out of town seems appealing. But we do not want to be so isolated we will never meet anyone. My husband is a native Spanish speaker and i am conversant (having lived in Argentina for several years). What do people think?

Hello AlexNova,

Regarding legality of the complex , I have heard conflicting views. Therefore, you are wise to mention using a lawyer to investigate this.

Regarding couples and families who own or  holiday there. The complex does have permanent residents and a mix of nationalities living or holidaying there.

Spain is very welcoming to relationships of all types. The closest town ( Benalup-casas viejas) is a testament to this.

Whilst the hamlet of Las lagunitas is small,  the ventas there are good and local people travel to eat there.

Regarding hiking and outdoor pursuits, this area is perfect for such a lifestyle. The nearby Wakana holiday village promotes activity based holidays. Be mindful that this is a hunting area, especially at the weekends and therefore there will be  lots of hunting guns and dogs.

Las Lagunitas is well connected to Los Barrios, Algeciras and Gibraltar. Tarifa (and from there by ferry,  Morroco) Also to Chichlana, Cadiz and Jerez .These are no more than an hour and a half away.

Please do checkout the Benalup-casas viejas Ayuntamiento Facebook site,  because this will give you an incling of the range of facilities and events close by.

Good luck with your research.
