I want to express my gratitude for creating this community. 

Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting Andalusia and Jerez, and I have fallen in love with the area. I believe that Jerez has great potential and I am considering buying a property/apartment to convert into short-term holiday rentals. Additionally, I would like to spend some time living there each year. 

I have a few questions that I hope you can help me answer. Is it a good idea to invest in Jerez's property market? Does tourism in Jerez continue all year round, or are there specific times when it is more popular? Also, I noticed many old buildings; would it be a good option to purchase one of these properties and refurbish it?

There are over 500,000 UK Ex-pats living in France and Spain many of whom are retired old age pensioners.

About 10 years ago Iain Duncan Smith called for wealthy pensioners who do not need benefit payments such as winter fuel allowance and free bus passes benefit payments should voluntarily hand back the money to the government. I would enjoy reading the audited statistics of the money repaid.

Shock horror when all UK Ex-Pats living in France and Spain had their Winter Fuel Allowance cancelled.

The then Work and Pensions Secretary explained that calculations were made on official temperature figures for each country, based on a five month winter that represents the coldest time of the year in the UK, matching existing criteria used by the government for other forms of cold weather payment.

In response to questions about recognising the variance of temperatures depending on altitude and region, Mr Duncan Smith said the government had looked at a system of weighting temperatures for areas with heavy populations of British pensioners, as opposed to calculating using figures for each whole country. But as the highest concentrations of British pensioners were often found in the warmer parts of European countries, it would have meant at least as many countries would be excluded as under the adopted scheme, if not more.

On the complaint that warmer overseas territories of countries like France, Spain and Portugal had skewed the results for British pensioners in those countries, the Work Minister said that European law would have to be changed for France’s Caribbean islands, Spain’s Canary Islands and Portugal’s Atlantic islands not to be included in the calculations.

The changes implemented including the system of weighting meant that the measurement of temperature was altered to suit the new criteria thus denying UK Ex-Pat pensioners the Winter Fuel Allowance

For those of us UK Ex-pats that live full-time in France and Spain

we know just how cold the winter months may be.

Hello everyone , a friend has asked me to enquire if their are any Persian speakers able to make contact with a young lady , who is being re settled in Spain. Initially she will be in Madrid, she’s 26 years old , can speak English too but only just started to learn Spanish. I must say I have found this forum very helpful , im looking at the most economical way to furnish my new apartment in jerez ? Ideally I would use a company or person who has a vehicle of Mercedes’  sprinter size to drive from london to jerez with furniture purchased and accumulated in the uk , Im wondering if this is cost effective as appose  to buying all new furniture in jerez against all costs  involved in having someone bring furniture from the uk , any advice and or recommendations greatly appreciated thank y

Hello, all.  I am a retired US citizen seeking to obtain temporary residency in Jarez de la Frontera, Spain, through the Nonlucrative Visa.  I studied the requirements, so have a pretty good understnding of what is needed.  I do meet the financial criteria.  Because of my location, I have to apply at the Spanish Embassy in Chicago. It requires a 3 month apartment lease or someone agreeing to host me and signing a document. I have owned my own home for decades and recently sold it. Now, I live with my daughter. Thus, I have no landlord to give a reference. I really don't want to make a special trip to Spain to look for an apartment. It seems unlikely that anyone would offer me a lease when I may not get the Visa.

I have received my passport.  I got my FBI   check, had it translated by a sworn translator, and apostilled.  It was dated Dec. 12th. I don't know if it is possible to get everything done before it expires. If I get another FBI background check, they say it takes 8 weeks to get it apostilled. 

Can someone on the forum advise me?

My brother lives in Jerez and is well looked after by his partner, however over time the stress has affected their relationship and I think a week or a couple of weeks in a resi home for my brother would do them both a lot of good.

My brother is suffering from cancer and has had a stroke. He does get up but need help with showering, dressing, and going to the toilet. He does sit up in a chair during the day. 

Are there any homes near Jerez that could accommodate him, it has to be near Jerez as he has a fair number of hospital appointments, so he needs to be close to the hospital. 

I’m in the process of buying a new apartment in jerez , it will not be finished until September , I d like to hit the ground running and am looking for a good local company to manage the rentals for me , like meet and greet and clean and be there for guests , i would appreciate any recommendations thank you
