Hello all,

I am looking for the above to create a garden from scratch. We have just move into a rural area on the outskirts of Jerez. I am not an expert Gardner but giving it a shot. It is a large unkept area with a veg patch at the bottom. Eventually I want to creat an organic veg garden and open it up for folks interested in community gardening. Grow, cook and eat .... , there is also potential for cooking classes as we have a large outdoor patio and BBQ pit, another. " food for thought"

i look forward to any replies and thoughts.

Thank you Jan for creating this site, very useful.

Lesley Horn.

Hi Lesley,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your kind comments.

We are a new website but hopefully more people will start joining soon when they get to know about it (Tell your friends and neighbours when you get time and/or share us on Facebook if possible too).

What a lovely place you have there and such beautiful photos! I hope you get some offers of tools soon and can create your garden for people to enjoy.

Please keep us updated on your progress and when you start your community gardening project and cooking classes you can tell everyone on here about it.

Good luck with your project.

Jan.

Thanks Jan,

We are making some progress, slow because of the unusual heat. But I am determined to get the garden growing!

I will keep you and others posted!

Lesley.

Hola

Funny how this sounds like something I would write.

We just (one week ago) moved into a campo in a rural area as well, about 7 minutes drive from Jerez town. Loving our view and trying to settle and hopefully learning some Spanish soon!

We have 5500 m2 of land and now trying to get creative with it. So far we have planted 40 ivy plants...they didn't reach as far as they looked in the garden center.

Where is a good place to buy gardening equipment and maybe even suitable outdoor/gardening accesories like shoes etc.?

Other ideas, tips or advice are welcome.

Saludos,

Mette

Hello Mette,

Yes, my garden project is taking up most of my time in the campo but loving it, as I said I am not an experienced gardener, nor have I had such a large lot before but it is a work in progress. It is certainally a change in lifestyle but every morning I walk around and there is always a new something growing!

We shop at Leroy and Bricor but will be browsing the open market on Sunday's for second hand treasures. Perhaps old tools and a wheelbarrow! We are on the look out for used palletts to make raised veg beds and furniture.

My advise is to be patient and not go crazy with expense as it is all trial and error to begin with depending on the soil and of course the rain this month!

I will download more pictures to compare what our garden was like when we moved in!

Good Luck,

Lesley.

Very nice! And could you recommend any of the open sunday markets?

Hi there Horn,

We have just moved from Portugal into the heart of historic part of the city of Jerez. (Plaza San Marcos). We have a lovely garden partially within the Arabic walls-fantastic!

However, we have a lot of garden tools that we no longer require. This includes a petrol Honda lawn mower. I am going to Ireland tomorrow for a week to put up my mums headstone. The following week-two days back in Portugal to pick up my friends dog. Unfortunately her circumstances have changed and she can no longer keep Snoopy.

Perhaps you would like to pass by on the 14th-Monday-and see what would be of use to you? If you come after 2.30-we have parking at the house.

Happy gardening-Maria.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. Much has happened since then. I have just purchased a new electric lawn mower and a weed whacker but would be interested in other tools. Your new places sounds lovely and in a great location.

I am now working part time, which means our retired life has suddenly taken a u turn. I work every morning till 1 pm, the next Monday Tuesday till 4pm. I am a caregiver to an elderly lady, so my schedule is quite complicated, perhaps we could keep in touch and figure out another time.

What will you be asking for the other odds and sods and what are they?

Much obliged.

Lesley.
