Hi I’ve just joined the forum. I’m thinking of buying a property in Chiclana (Barossa) to spend the winter there to begin with. I’m currently in Dublin and I’ve been looking online. There’s lots of options to buy and I know so little about the Spanish tax system for properties etc. I’m thinking of maybe renting a place for a few months to check out the place and see where I like! Any advice would be helpful thank you. Regards Claire .

Hi Claire,

Renting first is a good approach and at kyero.com you can find a guide to buying in Spain that is good advise. Especially having a good real estate lawyer that checks everything, so you can be sure to buy a legal property.

Good luck.

Good Evening Claire, I moved to Chiclana from Ireland (co Calre) 3 years ago to set up an Architectural practice with my Spanish wife and have learned very quickly the do's and dont's.

Renting first is the best option to get a feel of the area while also checking property prices within the area you are hoping to buy or build. Make sure you inspect any property before putting an offer down, as many times the photos can be misleading or you could find there is an issue with the buildings planning status or construction.

Im not too up todate with property taxes but a good source of information i suggest is Jilly at Houseshop. They can also assist you with local properties and sites to purchase if and when required.

Juan Antonio (English speaking solicitor is very popular with English speaking clients) specialise in property phurchases

Remember when renting, the winter (September - June) rates are circa €400 per month, but during the summer season (July - August) it will increase to circa €1000, again pending on the location where you are renting.

If you have any further question you can email me on [email protected]

Adrian

Hi Ralph

Thank you for all that. I’ve read a bit about buying a legal property in the various zones. I will check it all out.

Regards

Hi Claire, actually, we rented the place we are staying at from Oktober until June at a reasonable price. If you like, I can have our landlady get in touch with you. Nothing fancy, but nice and just the right timeframe to find and move into our new house by the end of May. I saw Adrian replied as well, I used his services and can recommend him.

Hi Ralph

regThank you for that. I wouldn’t stay from October till June, perhaps September /October until March . I would like to see the place and the availability online if possible . So I could talk to your landlady on here. I’m currently looking at properties to rent close to Barossa beach and the prices.
regards

Hi Claire, we moved over th Chiclana in December 2021, there are loads of properties  to rent short or long term. I know a guy who has many holiday let's and long term let's at reasonable  rates. Let me know if you are still looking..
