Hi there,

Nice to find this website and forum!

My husband and I are hoping to relocate to southern Spain from the Netherlands in the next few years and have narrowed our location to the area of Chiclana, specifically Los Gallos. Our main concern is whether mosquitos are a big problem being so close to the river/estuary and if there is any noise or other pollution from the nearby water treatment plant.

Naturally we understand that living in such a climate and environment is normal to live amongst mosquitos and other insects etc, however we would prefer to avoid any area that are heavily populated!

Thanks in advance for any information or advice!

Catherine

Morning Catherine,

My wife & I moved from London 2 years ago and we spent a few 6 months living in Los Gallos. Its a beautiful area will connected to both the town and the beach, and still feels like you live in the countryside. However, there are times during sun set the mosquito's are troublesome, but its seem to be accepted as one of those things you live with when living near the beautiful wet lands.

Make sure your property has good windows & doors with mosquito nets and that you have mosquito repellent near by.

Furthermore, we witness no issues with noise pollution or water contamination in or around Los Gallos, but again, Im not sure of exactly on proposed site location.

As my Spanish wife and I have an Architectural practice (Concept Architectural Workshop) and currently have 2 projects under construction in Los Gallos, we would be happy to assist you on any further queries in terms of site conditions & planning queries.

Good evening Adrian,

Thank you very much for your reply to our enquiry, your information was very helpful!

We continue to look for properties in and around Los Gallos and are very happy to hear that it comes well recommended. We had hoped to visit later this month in order to view some properties and get a better idea of what is available as well as spending some time in and around Chiclana, however the current travel restrictions mean this has to be postponed.

We would very much appreciate any additional advice, especially as we hopefully find ourselves closer to finding a property. It would be good to stay in touch in any case.

Kind regards,

Catherine & Peter
