Hello, I've owned a holiday apartment in Chiclana for about 15 years, but now I'm retired I can spend a few months at a time here. People here are very friendly and there are quite a few expats living permanently in Chiclana. When you next visit the area, you should try Amore and Bar Neros as expats tend to socialise here.  Amore is restaurant located on Paseo Maritimo of Playa La Barrosa, and Bar Neros is close to 2o Pista.

Re medical questions, I know many of the expats are members of the medical centre in the centre of Chiclana and close to food market. However off the top of my head I don't know the costs involved.

I can recommend Clinica Dental A Sonreir located in Tartessus CC near Novo Sancti Petri. English is spoken by nearly all of the very nice team. Ana the owner worked in UK for several years so her English is excellent.

I'm living in Chiclana for next six weeks so if I find any other good meeting places, I will post here.

I hope all goes well for your move.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and for the interesting and useful comments, very much appreciated.  We hope to revisit Chiclana soon and so will try out the places you have mentioned.

No problem! I'm going to wander down to the beach shortly to try out some beach bars I've not visited before... will let you know if it's an expat hangout. 😎

Morning Carol,

I too was in a similar situation a year ago when I moved from London to Chiclana with my Spanish wife to set up our Architectural practice in Chiclana. And very similar, the first thing I wanted to know was, where was the English speaking community as I am originally from Ireland with no Spanish language experience. I found a really nice group of English speakers in the 'Chiclana Walk and talk group' also advertised on Facebook, if you are interested in joining. The group is a mixed group of different nationalities all living in and around Chiclana. We typically walk the beach of La Barrosa on Friday morning at 11 for 30minutes and finish with a coffee on the beach front. I found it a great way to meet a great group of people and personally helped me settle in much quicker.

If you need any further information I would be happy to help.

Adrian

Hello Adrian/Carol

I’ve been reading through these posts with interest. My husband and I moved to Benalup Casas Viejas in April last year. We have settled very well and love it here. My half Irish husband speaks Spanish fluently, and I have been having lessons off and on over the years. I now have a smattering but am by no means fluent, and would love to be able to practice a bit. It would be good to meet up with others ‘in the same boat’ once in a while.

We went to La Barrosa beach a few weekends ago and loved it. Could you let me know more about the walk and talk group? Are you all English Speakers or English/Spanish.

Look forward to hearing from you

Colleen
