Afternoon all,

My apologies if this has already been asked, but I'm wondering if anyone might have some advice on how they arranged their mortgage to buy a second property in Chiclana and with which bank.

We are a married couple who own our own home in the Netherlands and are hoping to buy a holiday home (as a second home) in Chiclana within the next 3 years.

Having never bought overseas before, we are completely in the dark about the option of lending from a Spanish bank versus a local bank. Before we start contacting banks here, I thought it might be useful to ask if anyone else has been through a similar process and would be able to offer a bit of guidance.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

CJ

Hi! Usually your estate agent here in Chiclana can help you with that. Ours (Andaluz Homes) introduced us to the client service at Banco Sabadell, who have an English and German speaking counsellor who has helped us brilliantly with all questions of finance and insurance over the last 8 years.

You should come here and rent different places to get a feeling of the different areas. And make sure that you know all the different shades of illegality that come with houses here. There is also an Expat organisation, Chifra, who are happy to help without cost.

We are very happy here and can only recommend the place!

Best wishes Marion

Hi Marion,

Thank you so much for your informative reply! We are currently trying to navigate the financial areas before a planned visit in March, so your advice is very much appreciated. We are hoping to visit in March for 2 weeks to spend some time checking out different areas, and possibly return in the summer for a longer period. Thank you for the tip re legalities; we have heard a lot about this and are already busy informing ourselves as well.

I will also be sure to check out the Expat organisation you recommend. Thank you!

Kind regards,

CJ
