Digital NIE

Dear Adelaide,

This is JA from the TempleCAMBRIA law firm (based in Conil and Atlanterra). As far as we know there is no way of getting a digital NIE just by downloading it from the internet. If you refer to the digital (root) certificate which allows you to identify yourself and sign documents electronically this you can get it by aplying for a code here: https://www.fnmt.es/en/ceres   Go to CITIZENS > As a file to download onto your PC. Obtain software certificate > Configuración previa > Área de Descarga de Configurador FNMT > (please download the version suitable for your windows or Mac) > once you have finished downloading the file you need to go two steps backwards to "Obtener certificado software" (https://www.sede.fnmt.gob.es/en/certificados/persona-fisica/obtener-certificado-software) and then click on "Solicitud vía internet de su Certificado". Then where it says "solicitar certificado" you need to fill in the blanks with your NIE number, your surname (as it is shown in your NIE) you email address and again your email address. Then you need to click on where it says  "Pulse aquí para consultar y aceptar las condiciones de expedición del certificado" (click here to accept the terms and conditions of issuance of your certificate), click on "acepto las condiciones de expedición" > Click on "enviar petición" > click on Abrir configurador FNMT > set a password for your certificate (you can choose the one it suits you best) You will receive a code of 9 digits by email. Then you need to visit the tax office in Chiclana or Cádiz or any offices of the administration authorised to activate your digital certificate (you need to bring with you your passport and NIE). In Vejer you can visit the office of "atención del ciudadano" or so they say here: https://www.facebook.com/ayuntamiento.vejer/posts/1258449994219403/ (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 to 11). Once they activate your digital certificate you can go online to https://www.sede.fnmt.gob.es/en/certificados/persona-fisica/obtener-certificado-software/descargar-certificado  (please bear in mind it must be the same computer and use the same browser than the one you used to download the code. You need to fill the blanks in with your identification document (NIE number) your surname and the code you got validated. Once you do this you should be able to download the digital certificate which you need to instal in your computer to start using it (there are many websites in the internet how you can instal a root certificate in Google Chrome, Explorer, Edge or any other browser you use.
