Hi everyone on the forum,

We are Ross and Elena. We bought a house in Calle Torres, mid last year. We are keen DIYers and doing up the house with the help of local trades. Love the town, love the people, love the pace and as I am semi retired, spending more and more time here. Hoping to fly back soon, once the travel corridors between Spain and the UK are working OK. Totally useless at Spanish, but not shy to try.

So just a message to say hello, as the newbies in the area. Love to meet people for a coffee and a chat. Local knowledge is of incredible value.

Must also say, I have scared the life out of myself reading other forums about crime rates. We had believed and still hope that the Spanish crime is reserved for the coasts, but correct me anyone if I am just being a bit dumb.

Hoping to be back late July,

Very best wishes,

Ross

Crime the province of Cadiz is mainly around Algeciras and La Linea.  I live in Conil and crime is about zero.  Where you are is similar.  Go to where all the ugly tourists go, Malaga, etc and you'll see gang shootings, assassinations and all kinds.  All drug and human trafficking related.  How the Spanish must loves us Brits......

Check out the English paper's website, theolivepress.com.  You'll see all the ugly stuff.

Hi there

My husband and I have been living here for almost 4 years now and we love it here

We have only experienced one crime and that was a guy from Portugal who was caught imprisoned and deported within a month so it's pretty awesome as far as safety goes

If you want to meet up for a drink we are up for it .We are retired but have been doing masses of work on our house and gardens but never too busy to make new friends and introduce them to our circle which includes Norwegian, Dutch, English and of course Spanish

Hopefully meet you on the other side of this awful covid situation

Katie

PS,I will PM you my phone number

Greetings one and all.

We will be moving to our Finca on the outskirts of Arcos early in August.  We also need to do lots of DIY and gardening so local knowledge will be invaluable.  The property we think is basically sound but has been empty for three years.

This project is our later life crisis!  We are retired, can speak very little Spanish but are hugely enthusiastic to embrace the challenge.

We are looking forward to making new friends and will PM our details to people in this thread once we have arrived.

Hi Katie and Barry,

I wonder if I may have met you once last year, when I was at the Notary Office with my solicitor Carlos??

I am due to come out this Friday, 17th. What is the local mood towards us Brits and our very poor performance defeating Coronavirus. Have you heard any reports of concerns, people being worried we will bring the disease with us?

Thanks

Ross

Hi Ross

I don't know if we met before my memory is awful I was at the notary in September with my sister in law so maybe

As far as the attitude towards the British here in Arcos I haven't heard anything negative but to be honest we haven't really been out we are still tending to go out only for essentials

We did go up for a meal in Murales for our birthdays and the tourists that night were all Spanish we were the only Foreigners and I did hear Manolo say oh it's okay they live here so someone obviously said something

I know that there has been trouble in Malaga province but that's been between the British expats and the British tourists (typical)

Anyway I'm sure the bad feeling is more for the Madrileños who came down to stay in their holiday homes during lockdown they really got some stick

Well have a good flight and hopefully meet up soon x

Hi Jan and Olga, thanks for the contact. We go back to the UK tomorrow, but I am back working on our house in Arcos on 17th October, so if you are around then, let’s say hello and get a beer together. We live at #37. Best wishes, Ross
