Hi,

Before you pay a solicitor, try to find out why they have frozen your account as there can be a few reasons why they do this or if you know why then try to find out what you need to do to rectify this.

If you haven't already, go in the bank and ask why and what you need to do?

If you are in the UK you could phone, email or even Twitter the bank. Twitter works very well in these circumstances as  all banks have a dedicated Twitter customer service representatives and it's their job to sort out any problems. Obvious reasons are there may be insufficient funds in there to pay bills etc...or maybe you have not filled in a Non Residence certificate declaration in the last few years or it could be that your cards need verifying.

We had a general letter once saying to come in the bank to set up a new security system for using our bank cards and they said if we didn't do this our cards and access to our accounts would be stopped (every customer had to do it by a certain time) - Luckily we were in Spain at this time, otherwise that would have been difficult as they needed signatures and further details that had to be done in the bank branch - If we had not been able to get there, or we had not seen the letter, our account may have been frozen!

Most things can be sorted personally if you have the time. Do make sure that your utilities are being paid otherwise the utility companies are very quick to cut off the electric, water etc and then that takes time and money to get put back on!

We also have a fiscal rep (Solicitor) who we keep on to pay our taxes (each year) for a reasonable yearly fee and this gives peace of mind and also if we had a problem like this, we would be able to ask them to help. That's worth thinking about, when you have sorted your problem out.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the reply,  My biggest problem is note speaking Spanish, and not being able to get to Spain often enough

as I had a bad car accident.    I think the problem could be any of the things you have said except money in the account as I know this  is ok.

The problem with my bank is you can not speak to any one as they do not answer the phone, They dont reply to email [I  do not twitter]

We are going out to Spain in April and staying 6 weeks so hope I can sort it out, as it is giving me sleepless night worrying over it.   We are going to change banks as we have had other passed problems.

Do you live near Medina Sidonia.  We are going to take your advice  about fiscal rep.

Thank for all your help,  Just hope they still let me in the country.      Sue....

I don't live in your area but what bank is it?

If you have children or grandchildren they could Tweet the bank for you. I have no idea of Twitter but my daughter tweets for me.  I have sorted out a few things like this by asking her to Tweet for me. It's invaluable for all sorts of problems where telephone calls or email has ilicited no response. It's the initial contact you need to tell the bank your problem and this is what Twitter does and then they are at liberty to sort ot out for you.

The bank representative after hearing all about our problem on Twitter gave us a time that the bank would phone us and then the problem was all sorted quickly as the person phoning us knew all about it and only needed a few extra details and they spoke English. Our bank is Sabadell.

You don't want to be worrying about this until you go there, although it is a common problem with Spanish banks and something banks don't do as lightly in the UK. Also Utilities do not cut people off in UK as quickly as Spain does but that's life in Spain!

You will be allowed back in the country though..I wouldn't worry about that LOL

Hi Jan, My bank is BBVA[pain]

I have now set up a account with Sabadell so when I go out in April I can speak to someone who speaks English.

I will see if I can find someone who twitters.

Thanks for you help

Sue
